How do you change a network's IP address?

Ok so I just asked how you could add another device to an existing network and someone answered ';change the network IP adress to 192.168.0.3';

How do I change it? Like can someone give me step by step instructions?How do you change a network's IP address?
WELL, nearly all modern systems are designed to GET an IP address automatically when you connect to your router. PLEASE ignore setting a manual address and go back to your original question!!!! I BEG YOU.



Connecting a new machine to an exisiting network should be as easy as plugging in the cable to the router and rebooting the new machine!



If you are using wireless it should be as easy as clicking the ';View Available Networks'; and then clicking the ';Connect'; when you see YOUR network.



DHCP is your friend here as it will automatically assign an address without the need to manually set one. The only time you should have to manually set an address is if the router is not functional!



And an answer to your first question, telling you to manually set an address is way way off base! He has no idea what router you have, what gateway it is set to, nor any other specifics of YOUR NETWORK!How do you change a network's IP address?
You havent mentioned which operating system you use.

It depends on them..

If u are windows-xp user go to my network places.

then your network connection type..

right click to get properties and change there..



If u are vista user, go to network places, select your connection type..status and then properties..
I think I was that 'someone'



go to Control Panel -%26gt; Network Connections -%26gt; choose either Local Area Connection (( OR )) Wireless Connection -%26gt; Properties -%26gt; scroll down till u find Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) click on it then press Properties



now choose Choose following IP address and fill it 192.168.0.3 if its second device .. if first 192.168.0.2



Dont put anything in Subnet Mask just click it and it will filled up!



Default gateway 192.168.0.1



Press OK

It sometime can make error in connection if it entered wrong way so u can choose Obtain an IP address automatically if it happened as a BackUp
