Mobile Number Portability has been introduced in India. However, most Telecom operators have asked for more time and as a result the operationalisation has been deferred to July 2010 when all network carriers (Vodafone, Airtel, Reliance, BSNL, Tata Indicom, Docomo, MTS, Virgin, Aircel, IDEA etc.) have agreed to be ready. Mobile Number Portability (MNP) allows mobile users to move from one carrier to the other but still retain their old number for an amount of Rs. 19.00.
