How to improve network bandwidth or downloading speed in a dial-up internet connection?

I am using a dial-up modem with 230Kbps speed to connect internet. I'm getting the downloading speed at maximum of 16KBps. What is the highest downloading speed for my modem and how can I get this? I've already used DAP(Download Accelerator Plus) and Flashget. If I need to change my network settings? Please help. Thanks in advance. How to improve network bandwidth or downloading speed in a dial-up internet connection?
I'm afraid that's all your connection can do. The programs you installed won't really help in speed. If i were you i'd get a broadband connection. How to improve network bandwidth or downloading speed in a dial-up internet connection?
you need to contact yur isp for this.
The highest speed you can get with this modem is 230Kbps. If you're only getting 16Kbps, then something is wrong somewhere. Of course, it could just be that the server you were accessing was busy and could only manage 16K - there are a variety of factors to consider from the line you connect to, to the servers you connect to - more often than not, the problem is one of the servers you are connected to.

Have you considered going to DSL?
Sorry to tell you, but this is why dial up is no longer a viable option for accessing the Internet.

Dial up uses a series of tones to send data. In this day of digital data and fiber optic lines, most voice transmissions are chopped, diced folded, spindled and mutilated many times between the sender and the receiver. The human ear is a pretty crude instrument these days and does not know that the sounds that you hear coming over the phone has been chopped into little pieces and a bunch of stuff removed. It just all blends together and you never know.

But your modem knows, and it has a heck of a time figuring out what is real and what is noise, slowing down the whole process. So dial up just keeps getting worse, and the phone companies don't care because they want you to switch to DSL or broadband or wireless.

There is no easy cheap fix. If you want to get on the web, you will be forced to step up and purchase a better plan.

Sorry
You do need to change your networking settings. But be careful when you do because if you do certain things, it can wipe out your hard drive with the 230Kbps connectivity. Just be aware. If you need more help, email me at xxa.eamberxx1@yahoo.com. (:
that 16 kbps speed is only you are going to get....same is true even on 115.2 kbp
