Hope this helpedHow to change unsecured wireless network to secured?
To be more specific, we need to find the gateway address(that's just the address to your router) that is usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1. To find that there are a few way, the first is going to START-%26gt;RUN-%26gt;type in ';CMD'; press enter and then type ';ipconfig'; and press enter, that will show you what the gateway is. You can also go to the Control Panel-%26gt;the go to either network and internet connections or network connections or network and sharing center if you are on vista, then in xp ';right click'; on your wireless network and click ';status';, click on the ';support'; tab, then click ';details'; and you will see your gateway. In vista, you go to the network and sharing center and on the left hand side you click on ';change adapter settings';, then you right click on your wireless connection and click ';status'; and then click on ';details';
Now that you have your gateway address open up mozilla firefox or internet explorer, or whatever browser you have and erase everything in the address bar, that's the big bar that has the http://........., and put in gateway in the address bar,
for example if my gateway address was 192.168.1.1, I would put in (192.168.1.1) into the address bar, then click enter.
You will then bring up a screen that will either ask you for a user name and password, or it will bring you straight to your router settings. The User name and Password can be a alot of different things, and if you still have the instructions you may want to look for the default password, I've see default router passwords as user name:admin password:admin or user name:admin password:nothing(leave it blank), or user name:nothing password:admin. If you are already logged into the the router that is great, if not you may have to either do some more research on your router or reset to be able to login using the default password.
Now to your original question, once you are in your router click on either ';wireless settings';, or ';wireless'; see if there is a open for wireless security and choose either WPA or WPA2(some devices do not support WPA2), and then if you want the most secure connection choose your authentication as AES(butt again some device do not support that), choose a password that meets the requirement, and make sure to ';WRITE DOWN YOUR PASSWORD';, after you have click save, and now you will be disconnected from your internet connection, wait 30 seconds and now search for wireless networks in your area, and now you will see your wireless network but this time it will have a lock right next to it and you will now click on it and enter your new password, you will have to repeat these steps for connecting to your secure wireless network on your other wireless computers.
Sorry for such long instructions, but I hoped I helped you out a little.
Log in to your wireless router and change the security in the wireless settings, WPA2 is a good one to pick, then WPA, or WEP if you don't have that.
You have to enter the key for every computer that will connect to the network,
What he said, but also make sure to use MAC authentication and do NOT broadcast your SSID.
