Changing network security key?

ive already put in the ip addresses and all the other assential but when i go to the network security key on my lap top and type my key in it doesnt save it. It puts an 8 digit key in that i have never entered how do i get my key to saveChanging network security key?
An 8 digit key usually refers to WPA Personal

A 10 digit number refers to WEPChanging network security key?
Start by typing in your Ip address at home while in internet explorer or whatever,then when you have done that a window from your isp should pop up then you should be able to change and edit anything you need.
